Threats & Challenges within Apalachicola River Watershed

  1. Kyle, fascinating topic. I wrote a paper about the ACF and "Water Wars" in the Spring. I'm wondering if you see any real or possible parallels with the Colorado River in terms of over-extending upstream allocation to the point of degrading/destroying an estuary in Apalachicola Bay?

    1. Ben, thank you for your comment. I think there are certainly some parallels maybe we can discuss sometime. I've enjoyed reading your work!!

  2. Kyle, Thanks for bringing attention to this area. It is nice to see an important watershed being protected. I understand the frustrations of shared land management. I look forward to reading more about the disputes and resolutions.

  3. Emily, thank you for your comments. Interesting the commonalities and parallels (referenced by Ben) exist between so many of our projects nationwide.

  4. Hi Kyle...I'm looking back at some earlier posts. My watershed, Biscayne Watershed, is at the other end of the State. We have our own water challenges here (pollutants, salt-water intrusion, over-demand which is lowering the Biscayne Aquifer, etc) but I wouldn't have thought that access to water/water rights would be a challenge on your end of the State. Protected areas are certainly important in Florida. On the southern end of the state, it's almost to the point that what isn't specifically protected is developed or soon will be.
